Evacuation orders that had been in effect for parts of southeast Louisville, including areas BC42, BC43, BC44, LA22 and LA33, were lifted at 4:30 p.m. Monday after crews gained control of a wildfire known as the 104th Fire burning near Dillon Road and U.S. Highway 287, according to Boulder County officials.

Fire units also responded to a second, small fire near North 63rd Street and Plateau Road in unincorporated Boulder County, northwest of Niwot. That fire was quickly contained.

Earlier in the afternoon, the grass fire known as the 104th Fire jumped Dillon Road and burned on the west side of U.S. Highway 287, with some movement continuing east. By 3:50 p.m., officials said most of the fire had been contained and crews had moved into the mop-up stage, focusing on burning hay bales that were producing significant smoke. Officials estimated the fire burned about 35 acres.

Good Samaritan Medical Center was within the evacuation zone while orders were in effect. Roads were closed at Dillon Road and U.S. Highway 287, with additional southbound closures on Highway 287, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire occurred amid record-breaking December temperatures and dry conditions, following recent Red Flag Warnings.
