It is with deep sorrow we announce that James Marshall Gillespie, age 78, of Boulder, Colorado, passed away Sept. 4, 2025, of natural causes.
James was born in Wichita, Kansas, on Aug. 14, 1947. Raised in Indianola, Iowa, he attended the University of Kansas and served in the Air National Guard before moving to Colorado, where he worked at CU Boulder for more than 20 years before retiring. He enjoyed golfing, working on projects at home and on the ranch in Kansas, and spending time with family.
James is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Montgomery) Hilker; his children, Brent Gillespie, Brianna (Gillespie) Towber and William Gillespie; his brother, William Gillespie; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Abigail, Jacob, Daniel, Rebekah, Arthur and Audrey.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Cathi (Flaherty) Gillespie; father, Victor Gillespie; mother, Lois (Wright) Gillespie; and sister, Vicki (Gillespie) Mickelsen.
James will be laid to rest at Maud Cemetery in Cunningham, Kansas, on Sept. 20, 2025.
