BRL asked mayoral and city council candidates what Boulder should try next to address homelessness and how the city should pay for it. Candidates called for more mental health and addiction treatment, supportive housing and regional partnerships, while others emphasized staying the course and tracking results.
Category: Boulder City Council Election: Where the Candidates Stand on 2026’s Biggest Issues
In the lead-up to the Nov. 3, 2026, election, Boulder Reporting Lab asked each of the city council and mayoral candidates to respond to our questionnaire, with questions selected from more than 200 submissions from our readers. Based on those submissions and the key issues shaping Boulder’s present and future, we identified six central topics: affordable housing, homelessness, governance and spending, Flock and automatic license plate readers, wildfire, and local businesses and downtown. We believe these answers will help readers better understand each candidate’s priorities, values and vision for Boulder. Fifteen of 19 candidates responded, and their full answers are being published here as part of our 2026 city council candidate questionnaire.
