Good Monday morning, Boulder. Today’s edition is sponsored by Downtown Boulder Partnership. Bands on the Bricks returns to Pearl Street Mall this summer with free Wednesday night concerts, dancing under the stars and happy hour specials June 10-July 29.

Leading today: One year after the firebombing attack on the Pearl Street Mall that killed Karen Diamond and injured more than a dozen people at a Run for Their Lives gathering, many in Boulder’s Jewish community say they are still carrying grief, fear and anger. But they are also choosing to keep gathering together. Ahead of a commemoration at this weekend’s Boulder Jewish Festival, community members reflected on resilience, Jewish identity and Diamond’s final message: to respond to hate with love and kindness. John Herrick and Brooke Stephenson report

Also today: Boulder City Council will hold a public hearing on the future of the municipal airport, reopening debate over whether the city should accept federal grants that could tie the land to aviation use for decades. The move follows criticism of a recent council vote, mounting questions about airport finances and renewed pressure from residents who want the 179-acre site considered for affordable housing. Herrick reports.

And in BRL Opinion: Bob Yates argues the Museum of Boulder’s flag contest was meant to spark creativity and community conversation — not create an official city flag — and says the backlash has gone too far

More, Below the Fold:

Afternoon storm chances stick around

A familiar late-spring pattern continues this week, with mostly sunny mornings followed by a chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Monday should reach the upper 70s, with a 30% chance of showers and storms developing around midday. Overnight lows will dip into the mid-50s.

Tuesday looks similar, with highs in the low 80s and a 40% chance of afternoon thunderstorms developing later in the day. Storm chances increase slightly Wednesday, with partly sunny skies and a 50% chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

Despite recent moisture, most of Boulder County remains in severe drought, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor.

Boulder to unveil final plans for Primos Park

The City of Boulder will host an open house this weekend for the future Primos Park, a 9-acre park planned along Violet Avenue between Broadway and 19th Street.

The project, formerly known as “Violet Park,” had a preliminary plan with flood mitigation features, pollinator-friendly landscaping and amenities such as play pods, an outdoor pavilion and a small amphitheater.

The open house is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the park site. Visitors can review final design plans, walk through marked project features and speak with city staff. Music and tacos will also be available.

The event marks the completion of the park’s design phase. The project will now move into permitting and construction, with groundbreaking expected in the fall, according to the city’s project webpage.

Bob Yates: Debating a Boulder flag reveals much about our community

The Museum of Boulder’s flag design competition was an exercise in creativity and fun, not an effort to create an official flag for the City of Boulder. Continue reading…
