The structural damage from the Marshall Fire that barreled through parts of Boulder County in a matter of hours on Dec. 30 is now evident. In total, 1,091 homes and businesses were destroyed, according to preliminary official estimates. Another 179 structures were damaged. A vast majority of them were residential structures. The fire — which covered about 6,200 acres — was the most structurally destructive in Colorado state history.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has released an updated list of the names of about 35 businesses that have been identified as destroyed or damaged. (A searchable map is here.)
The lost businesses have profound implications on people’s lives — they represent jobs, livelihoods and a range of services to the surrounding community. The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment encourages anyone who has become unemployed as a direct result of the Marshall Fire, or those who are self-employed and had work interrupted, to file an unemployment insurance claim through MyUI+.
On the day of the fire, video showed people fleeing the Costco in Superior. That store was only minimally damaged and was set to reopen on Friday, Jan. 7.
