President Biden won the most support of any candidate in the Boulder County presidential primary election on Tuesday, March 5, according to the latest unofficial election results from the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder. He earned 84% of the vote in the Democratic primary.

About 9% of voters, totaling 5,250 votes, selected “noncommitted delegate.” The noncommitted delegate votes in the Democratic primary have been used by activists to voice their disapproval of President Biden’s response to the Israel-Hamas war. In Colorado, too few voters selected this option to send any uncommitted delegates to the Democratic National Convention in August.

Nikki Haley won the Republican primary with about 54% of the vote. The former governor of South Carolina lost Colorado as a whole to Donald Trump. Following defeats in other states on Super Tuesday, she announced she is suspending her campaign.

Boulder was not the only county that appears to have favored Haley. She also won in Summit, Pitkin, Denver, San Miguel and San Juan Counties, according to the Colorado Secretary of State.

Approximately 37,000 unaffiliated voters participated in the Boulder County primary, with 58% voting in the Republican primary. For context, about 48% of Boulder County’s active registered voters are unaffiliated, 40% are Democrats and 11% are Republicans.
