Councilmembers on Thursday approved a $46.4 million adjustment to the 2024 budget, using unspent money from the prior year, new grant money and additional revenue. Much of the money will be spent on existing programs and infrastructure projects, some of which have increased in cost due to inflation, according to city officials.
The budget includes renovations for city facilities, a long-awaited respite care program for homeless people transitioning out of the hospital, two electric fire trucks, seven electric buses for the HOP route, cost escalations for an underpass and multi-modal changes at 19th Street and additional money for the North Boulder Library, which is slated to open as soon as this month.

While Boulder dedicates all this money for homeless , they fill the pockets of the developers and accept LIHTC’s federal matching funds that create an endless supply of more homeless and increase the jobs/housing imbalance in the inelastic market here. They fund endless war on genocide in Gaza and the West Bank while Israeli’s are denied tourist trips to the Maldives by that country for Israel’s atrocity. Genocide money could be spent to deflect inflation.
I thought the library district, which I did not vote for, covered the NB library. It sure added $300 to my inflated property taxes, which raised rent in Boulder, passed on by property owners and depletes sales taxes revenues income from renters or property owners who can’t pass it on.
The police told me last week we are short 20 police cars. A blind eye to mismanaged population growth that impacts city infrastructure/budget.
Less is more.
