We’re tracking the latest developments after Sunday’s antisemitic attack targeting attendees of Run for Their Lives, a weekly walk on Pearl Street for Israeli hostages. Twelve people were injured — at least one critically — when 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman of Colorado Springs used a makeshift flamethrower and threw incendiary devices into the crowd. Officials are calling it a targeted act of terrorism. Witnesses and officials say the suspect shouted “Free Palestine” during the assault.
Federal prosecutors have charged Soliman with a hate crime, alleging he targeted the group based on their perceived religion and national origin. He also faces 16 counts of attempted murder and additional charges at the state level. Officials say Soliman planned the attack for a year, wanted to “kill all Zionist people” and told investigators he would do it again. Law enforcement recovered 16 unused Molotov cocktails and a backpack sprayer filled with flammable liquid at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that Soliman was not on their radar prior to the attack. Two victims remain hospitalized.
