Dear BRL readers,

With your support, we’ve built something powerful. Now we’re asking for your help to take it even further.

Today, Boulder Reporting Lab is launching our most ambitious campaign yet: to raise $200,000 by Dec. 31. Every dollar you give will be doubled through NewsMatch.

Over the past four years, I’ve seen this community come together to create something that’s disappearing across the country: a brand-new, independent, high-quality local newsroom built from scratch.

BRL has grown not because of big money or outside ownership, but because people here stepped up to support us — your friends, your family, your neighbors. People who believe that facts matter, that accountability matters, and that Boulder needs journalism that puts the public first.

Not from a hedge fund. Not from a corporate chain. From people who live here. For people who live here.

Will you join them?

Here’s what support from our community made possible this year:

  • Published 50+ stories about the 2025 election, giving Boulder voters the facts they needed.
  • Reached half of all Boulder households through BRL Today.
  • Broke exclusive stories, delivered trusted breaking news and expanded coverage of national issues affecting Boulder.
  • Launched a new opinion section with trusted local voices.
  • Became a home for beloved local writers like John Lehndorff (food) and Silvia Pettem (history).
  • Remained fiercely independent, with over 90% of every dollar going directly to reporting.

You made this possible. Every headline, every newsletter, every deeply reported story exists because people like you believe in the power of local journalism.

The truth is, tens of thousands of people read BRL, but only a small number have donated. If more of you give today, we’ll meet our goal and grow in 2026 with more reporters, deeper coverage and a stronger foundation for a newsroom this community can continue to shape and sustain.

We’re already one of the few remaining local newsrooms in Boulder. That’s something worth protecting, and building on.

And the need could not be more urgent. Another election year is approaching. The future of Sundance is on the horizon. Federal funding shifts are already affecting housing, nonprofits and essential public services.

If BRL has helped you stay informed or feel more connected to Boulder, now is the time to give back and invest in the future of local journalism.

With deep appreciation,

Stacy Feldman
