The Boulder community is saddened by the passing of Elmira Davis, a beloved educator, gospel singer and longtime member of Historic Second Baptist Church of Boulder. Mrs. Davis passed away recently at the age of 96, marking the end of an extraordinary era in the church’s 118-year history and its rich legacy of Black gospel music in Boulder and beyond.

For more than three decades, Mrs. Davis served as a dedicated teacher in the Boulder County Head Start Program, nurturing and inspiring generations of young children. Known for her love, compassion, warm spirit and unforgettable hugs, she touched the lives of countless families and taught more than three generations of Boulder residents.

A cherished community leader and legend, Elmira Davis leaves behind a legacy of faith, music, service and unconditional love. Her presence enriched both the church and the broader Boulder community, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 9 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 10 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, 5300 Baseline Road, Boulder, Colorado.

The community is invited to join family and friends in honoring and celebrating the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Elmira Davis.
