Boulder firefighters extinguished a wildfire near the mouth of Boulder Canyon on Thursday morning after it briefly prompted an evacuation warning for nearby residents.
Boulder Fire-Rescue said the People’s Crossing Fire, which broke out near Eben G. Fine Park on the west side of Boulder, was out as of 10:22 a.m. Officials had issued an all-clear at 10:04 a.m.
The Boulder Police Department issued an evacuation warning at 9:44 a.m. for an area that included parts of Boulder Canyon, Fourth Street and Sunshine Canyon, according to Everbridge. The warning advised residents to be ready to leave on short notice but did not order them to evacuate.
Firefighters worked near the canyon entrance and the Arapahoe Avenue bridge as the fire moved uphill going north and west, according to Watch Duty.
The cause of the fire is not known.
The fire broke out inside Boulder city limits amid unusually dry conditions. Stage 2 fire restrictions have been in effect in unincorporated western Boulder County, prohibiting campfires, charcoal grills, fireworks and outdoor smoking.
Fire officials warned in March that fuels were fully cured, snowpack was far below normal and red flag days had arrived earlier than usual.
I passed by there early this morning. There was a large group of people experiencing homelessness camped near this fire. Hope everyone is OK and made it away safely.
