If you’ve been hoping for a break from the relentless heat, hang tight — Boulder will be stuck in this heat dome a bit longer. Highs are set to flirt with records through Friday, Aug. 8, with Wednesday, Aug. 6, topping out around 97. But Thursday is the real scorcher, likely hitting 100 degrees, the most intense day of the entire heatwave. Friday cools slightly back to 97, but it will still feel like a blow dryer outside.
Heat Safety Tips:
- Try to avoid being outdoors during peak afternoon hours.
- Stay hydrated — especially if you’re hiking, biking or attending outdoor events.
- Keep an eye on pets and neighbors who might be vulnerable to heat stress.
We’ll also see smoke levels fluctuate through the rest of the week, with large, lofted smoke plumes visible in the late-day hours from wildfires burning about 150 miles away on the Western Slope. At times overnight, this smoke may settle closer to ground level, causing reduced visibility and degraded air quality. With dry vegetation, hot temps, exceptionally low humidity and occasional gusty winds, fire danger remains elevated — especially in the mountains. Be extra cautious with anything that could spark or flame the rest of the week.
Relief is on the horizon: A cold front is expected to roll into the Front Range Friday evening or night. That should bring cooler temps, lower fire risk and a shot at weekend rain, which we could really use.
