The City of Boulder will conduct prescribed pile burns Thursday, Feb. 12, in southeast Boulder, south of Highway 36 and east of Cherryvale Road. Residents may see smoke in the area but are advised not to call 911, as these burns are planned and monitored.
Ignitions will begin after 10:30 a.m. and conclude before 3 p.m., though smoke may linger as fire crews ensure the burns are fully extinguished. The burns, carried out under favorable weather conditions following snowfall, help reduce wildfire risk by safely disposing of collected branches and debris from open space management efforts.
Residents are encouraged to clear debris like pine needles, branches and leaves from their properties to improve wildfire defense. The city recommends using green waste disposal options for safe removal.
Boulder Fire-Rescue is conducting the burns in coordination with Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. More information on prescribed burns is available here.
